Dr. Thomas H. McGlumphy

Dr. Thomas Hackett McGlumphy, aged 89, passed away peacefully in his own home on January 15, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family, favorite nurses and loyal companion; his dog, Annie. Tom was the son of the late James Harvey McGlumphy and Ann Ilene McGlumphy(Hackett). He was the devoted husband of Carole Timms McGlumphy for over 66 years.

Tom attended Chatham High School in Chatham, NJ (Class of 1949) and went on to obtain his undergraduate degree from Baker University. While there, he was an active member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and one of the first members of the Television Committee before graduating in 1953. He was then drafted to serve in the Army Medical Corps, based in Hot Springs, AK during the Korean War. He and Carole married in 1954 during his service. Upon discharge, Tom went on to obtain his M.D. from Temple University Medical School. In 1963, Dr. McGlumphy opened his own Obstetric and Gynecological Practice where he spent his years dedicated to Abington Hospital. He retired from medicine in 1994. In addition to his love for serving the women and babies of the community, Tom was an expert woodworker and an avid golfer. He enjoyed “Sunday Dinner” with his family and traveling to their two lake homes, one in Lees Summit, MO and the other in the Pocono mountains.

Tom is survived by his wife: Carole, his children: Robert (Ann), John, and Sharon Rabenold (Eric), as well as his grandchildren: Allison Lang (Brandon), Delaney Rabenold, Jimmy McGlumphy and Tommy Rabenold. He is also survived by three great grandchildren: Ryder, Indie and Teneile Lang. All of his family is so grateful for the loving care he received from his wonderful nurses: Mary C., Heather and Mary F. and the staff from Abington - Jefferson Health Hospice Care. 

A funeral will be held privately for the immediate family at church. There will be a public viewing held Tuesday, January 19th from 6-8pm at Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home located in Ambler, PA. The funeral home will be following and enforcing all CDC guidelines for safety.
